Since its foundation SSP has worked towards the empowerment of PWDs focusing mainly on grassroot level.
Awareness and Advocacy
SSP has reached out to PWDs in ten districts of South Punjab bringing impact in the lives of over 10000 PWDs. Giving them trainings, opportunities of self-employment, spreading awareness using rights based approach, provision of wheelchairs, white canes, crutches, three wheeled bikes for the sake of mobilization, so that PWDs dwelling in underserved areas does not have to limit themselves to the four walls of their house.
SSP’s untiring efforts brought about accessible banking in Pakistan, building of ramps and accessible bathrooms in various government buildings. SSP’s latest awareness campaign is taking measures to make Pakistan Railwaysaccessible.
SSP is working rigorously to rehabilitate PWDs especially women with disabilities as they are vulnerable to societal risk and their disability is stigmatized to a greater extent than men.SSP has taken effective steps to empower WWDs by effectively forming self-help groups by providing skills training such as embroidery, sewing, beautician courses, and then these women could earn with honor.A highlight achievement of SSP’s WWDs self-help groups is successfully completing an order of 300 uniforms in one and a half months, which originally called for a minimum of three months to complete.
SSPs self-help groups consist entirely of women determined to gain more of their lives and aim to improve the quality of life for themselves as comfortably as their residential districts to bring close to impact, to inspire other women with impairments, and to contribute towards the advancement of their nation.
